Musical Offering, Trio Sonata Bach faced a difficult task in composing his Musical Offering. Frederick the Great had given him a challenging theme, and Bach proceeded to create an encyclopedia of contrapuntal solutions. Among them was a trio sonata for flute, violin and basso continuo. In this final movement, he transforms the theme by putting it into a bright triple meter. You can hear it first in the flute, then in the violin, and -- after a short transition -- in the cello.
