Berlioz: Requiem, Op.5 |

"Tuba mirum" from Grande Messe des Morts, Op.5 Berlioz treated his Requiem as a grand dramatic work, not as a religious statement. The most notable illustration of this is in his setting of the "Tuba mirum". Here the trumpet that calls the dead to judgment is portrayed by four separate brass bands arranged at the corners of the stages surrounding the choir and orchestra. Compare this to the simple solo trombone of Mozart's setting. Real Audio: 28k | 56k |
