String Quartet No.12 in F major, Op.96 "American", I: Allegro ma non troppo
The melody that Dvorák used for this quartet was not an American tune. Rather, it was the result of his incorporating the melodic and rhythmic language of the Native American and African-American music he heard during his stay in the United States.
